James Graham is a regular voice in the capital, presenting a range of shows that have familiar themes and stories that have real world parallels. His new play Quiz is no different and even goes a step further as it dramatises a real life event from the world of British game shows.

The West End has been the home of many shows that have been based on a true story of course, but this one will delve into something that audiences might not have expected to reappear on a West End stage – the Charles Ingram scandal on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?

Back in 2001 Ingram was a former Army Major taking part on the game show, hoping to win its jackpot of £1million. But when his performance was put under scrutiny, some discrepancies emerged, which later led to Ingram’s prosecution, as well as his wife Diana and accomplice Tecwen Whittock.

This show is not affiliated with the actual game show, but it does come from an insightful mind in James Graham, whose work has also included political shows Labour Of Love, The Vote and This House, as well as other productions like 2017’s Ink, which looks at Rupert Murdoch’s acquisition of The Sun newspaper. So he has a lot of experience in these types of shows that place a magnifying glass over British society.

His latest show first premiered at the Chichester Festival Theatre and now heads to London’s West End under the direction of that venue’s Artistic Director Daniel Evans. It runs at the Noël Coward Theatre from the Spring of 2018.
