One of the biggest success stories of the last few decades makes a brief new appearance in the capital this October, with some high profile actors taking on lead roles.

That play is David Mamet’s Glengarry Glen Ross, the Chicago-set drama with immoral characters, big speeches and shocking actions. It runs at the Playhouse Theatre in London’s West End with Christian Slater taking on the lead role of Ricky Roma, played to huge success by Al Pacino on the big screen.

He is joined by a host of other talented performers, including Kris Marshall, well known for a range of television programmes on these shores, including My Family, Death In Paradise and Citizen Khan, as well as Don Warrington, Stanley Townsend and Robert Glenister.

Sam Yates directs a story that focuses on real estate agents in Chicago who are forced to be reckless to sell property. No cost is too high and no action too shocking.

The play was first seen in the early 1980s and as this was here in the capital, this show is somewhat of a homecoming. That National Theatre premiere in 1983 would be the first step in a process that led to Broadway success, a big screen adaptation and a Pulitzer Prize. So to say that the show’s return to London is welcome would be an understatement.

After all, any of David Mamet’s plays cause celebration when they return to the capital – just look at the success of 2015’s revival of American Buffalo at the Wyndham’s Theatre – and the revival of his best known show will be no different.

Glengarry Glen Ross runs at the West End’s Playhouse Theatre from October.
